It was another warm morning as I sat eating my breakfast (Weetbix in case you were curious) on my balcony. I felt like an adventure but where to go? I grabbed my map of Chiang Mai and Wat Omong caught my eye. I’d seen the name before as a friend had posted pictures of quotes pinned to the trees. Decision made – I’m off!

It was quite a bike ride to get there; happily I was fuelled by a passionfruit ice block along the way.

The temple is set in 15 acres of wooden land so it is quite different to the other temples that I’ve visited. If I was a monk I would want to live here.

There is a large pond where you can feed the fish and the turtles.

I don’t know about you but cat fish creep me out – it’s the gaping mouths and those whiskers!

Urg!

Urg!

There are many “talking trees” which have words of wisdom written in both Thai and English.

There are tunnels that run below the stupa and these really caught my photographic interest. The tunnels were supposedly built by the King and painted with bush scenes so they could keep a famous but mentally deranged monk within the grounds of the monastery as he had a habit of just wandering off into the bush for days on end.
