My work day used to look like this:
6.30am Alarm gently goes off with the sound of running water and chimes. I glare at it. Turn it off and pretend it never happened. Repetitive conversation running in my head “Get up! You’ll have more time to get ready”. “Hmmm so cosy in bed. Rather stay here”. I drag myself out of bed and spend way too long in the shower.
Breakfast is eaten while blow drying my hair.
7.30am All suited up, with my lunch made, I head out the door hoping that the buses are running on time and I can get the early one so my journey isn’t too long.
8am At the office. Open plan. Noisy. Earphones on. Head down.
My volunteering days now look like this:
Wake with no alarm, just the birds chirping and sunlight.
Getting ready is a breeze. I wear the same trousers each day and have a choice of 2 tops. My shower is a cold one by choice so I start the day cool.
Breakfast is on my baloney. Sometimes I have time to read a chapter of my book.
7.30am I bike to work on my relatively trustworthy bike.
My directions to work look something like this:
Head right. Stay on the left to go under the little bridge. Keep going until you get to the big bridge. Go under and turn right onto the motor way.
Ahh calm as I’m out of busy traffic, onto the Parade of the Royals (as I like to call it)
Enjoy the cool breeze of the country roads.
Take a left at the stop sign. Whizz down the little hill. Right then quick left looking out for the Care for Dogs signs.
A left and a second left and I’m almost there. Slow down for the volunteers who are already out and about walking the dogs.
8.30am At the office at Care For Dogs. Open plan. Noisy. Lovely.
