Recently, I was fortunate enough to volunteer at the Care For Dogs shelter in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand for 6 weeks. Although I’ve already written about the experience I thought that the dogs deserved another post as they are constantly on my mind. So here are what those wonderful creatures taught me:
-
Play!
-
Naps are good (the phrase let sleeping dogs lie” now makes complete sense to me. Those guys can be grumpy when they wake up!)
-
Trust completely
-
Play! It’s worth repeating as I do take life too seriously sometimes
-
Love fully (they will know you a short time and love you forever)
-
Set boundaries (let others know when they are in your space)
-
Forgive easily (even when they had been let down in the worse possible ways these dogs still forgave humans their mistakes and open themselves up again)
-
Walks are fantastic (there is so much happiness to be had from a simple walk if you look around. And smell everything!)
