What can you do in Brisbane on a 23 hour stop over? I was travelling back to New Zealand from Singapore which required me to stop over in Brisbane.
I arrived at 9.30am and would leave the next day at 8.30am.
My first mission was to get some sleep! Squashed up on the 8 hour flight from Singapore meant I was feeling quite fragile.
With the edge taken off my sleep deprivation I set out to explore the town. I was staying near to the train station on Roma Street, very handy for walking around.
I strolled down the hill to The Barracks. A small shopping mall that didn’t feel like a shopping mall. With lovely little shops either side of the pedestrian only walk way, and seats in the middle for sipping on a coffee, this was a lovely way to start my adventure.
Brisbane is a great place for walking. I headed over the river and walked down through the South Bank Parklands. There is a Gallery of Modern Art, a Culture Centre and a Science Museum along the way.
By now my body was telling me that it was time for a meal of some kind. I crossed the Melbourne Street bridge and wandered to the Queen Street Mall. The cafes in the middle of the mall are quite pricy but there is a food court in the Myer’s Centre that has some delicious options.
The light was starting to dim as I started walking back to my hostel. The City Centre is beautiful at night with the office lights reflecting on the water.
My day ended where it had started; at The Barracks. I picked up breakfast at Coles for my early start tomorrow and enjoyed a fantastic burger at FabFishAnd Burger.
