I spent 30 days making a Very Small Commitment (or VSC) to myself to spend half an hour each day taking photos and improving as I went.
This is what I learnt during that time:
- It’s the things you do every day that make a difference rather than what you do once in awhile.
- It is possible to fit in all in with a little planning.
- Get creative and use a different perspective. There are plenty of things to take photos of even when it rains 3 days in a row.
- Cats aren’t very interested in posing for the camera.
- Let yourself have fun; don’t take yourself too seriously.
- Getting frustrated with your camera, the weather or yourself is okay. Giving up is not okay.
- Breathe.
- Have a shoot list. Very handy for those days when you feel like all creativity has left the planet. Means you have no excuse not to get out there.
- Put yourself and your goals first. A happy you is a nicer person to be around.
- Process photos as you go. I was thrilled that my past-self had the good sense to upload and review photos as she went and mark favorites. It made it much easier for me at a later date to write about them.
