I spent 30 days making a Very Small Commitment (or VSC) to myself to spend half an hour each day taking photos and improving as I went.

This is what I learnt during that time:

  1. It’s the things you do every day that make a difference rather than what you do once in awhile.
  2. It is possible to fit in all in with a little planning.
  3.  Get creative and use a different perspective. There are plenty of things to take photos of even when it rains 3 days in a row.
  4. Cats aren’t very interested in posing for the camera.
  5.  Let yourself have fun; don’t take yourself too seriously.
  6.  Getting frustrated with your camera, the weather or yourself is okay. Giving up is not okay.
  7.  Breathe.
  8.  Have a shoot list. Very handy for those days when you feel like all creativity has left the planet. Means you have no excuse not to get out there.
  9.  Put yourself and your goals first. A happy you is a nicer person to be around.
  10.  Process photos as you go. I was thrilled that my past-self had the good sense to upload and review photos as she went and mark favorites. It made it much easier for me at a later date to write about them.
