Room with a view

This  mornings adventure was to walk to the Jade Pagoda. After walking for an hour and asking a bunch of locals we had to admit defeat as no where knew where the right street was let alone the Pagoda. We consoled ourselves with a cold green tea drink in a wonderful little alley full of the daily life of Saigon and a colourful Buddhist temple.

As we strolled back to our hotel we took a look at the War Remnants Museum. I focused on the photos of the post war recovery because, after seeing an outdoor photography exhibition yesterday of some of the Agent Orange victims, I didn’t need any further reminder of how brutally humans can treat each other.
I had initially been excited about having my photo taken by a rather large helicopter when we entered but on the way out my excitement has been replaced with a resistance to be anywhere near the instruments of such horror.

Onto our next food adventure and I found my new favourite dish Phu Bo – a wonderfully spicy broth that I added chicken, bean spouts, mint and chilli to (I later took a cooking lesson to learn how to make this dish and 3 others).

We ended our day by doing some travel related chores – finding a great cheap hotel for our next quick stop in Saigon and booking a tour for the Mekong Delta. I much prefer those chores to the standard ones at home – funny that.

Tonight we fly North to Hue.
